Installing the Ribbon Workbench

In our previous discussion, we explored the Ribbon Workbench—a powerful tool for editing the Command Bar (formerly known as Ribbon) in Dataverse/Dynamics 365 entities. Now, let’s delve into the practical aspect: how to install Ribbon Workbench. Here are two straightforward methods:

1. Install as a Solution

One way to install the Ribbon Workbench is by importing and installing it as a managed solution. This method enables you to access the Workbench directly from your Advanced Settings. However, a drawback is that you’ll need to manually download and upload each new version.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Begin by downloading the ZIP file from this link.
  • Navigate to the environment where you wish to install the Ribbon.
  • Upload the ZIP file by clicking „Import Solution.“
  • Once imported, the Workbench will be available in the Advanced Settings of the environment.
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all environments where you need the Ribbon Workbench.

2. Install in Your XRM Toolbox

Another option is to utilize the XRM Toolbox. This method doesn’t require you to install a solution separately, but you’ll need to have the XRM Toolbox already installed on your system.

Here’s how to proceed:

  • Open the XRM Toolbox application.
  • Navigate to „Configuration“ and select „Tool Library.“
  • Search for „Ribbon Workbench“ in the available tools.
  • Select the Ribbon Workbench tool and click on „Install.“
  • Accept the license terms to complete the installation process.

These two options provide convenient ways to access the Ribbon Workbench for your Dynamics 365 environment. Each method has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, allowing you to choose the one that best fits your requirements.

By following these simple steps, you can seamlessly integrate the Ribbon Workbench into your Dynamics 365/ Power Platfom setup, empowering you to efficiently customize the Command Bar and enhance user experience.
